Richard Neutra: An Architectural Vision Carried Forward with Sky-Frame
A defining figure of mid-century modernism, Richard Neutra helped redefine the relationship between architecture, light and nature. His work is notably characterized by expansive glass surfaces and a desire to blur the boundaries between interior spaces and their surroundings.
Located in Connecticut, the Corwin House is one of Neutra’s rare projects on the U.S. East Coast. Acquired by architectural designer Aziz Osko, the residence underwent a meticulous restoration inspired by Neutra’s original plans and architectural vision.

Preserving a vision with today’s technology
Neutra was known for experimenting with some of the most advanced technologies and materials available in his time. Large expanses of glass, slender structures and early aluminium sliding doors were all part of his continuous pursuit of openness to the landscape.
During the restoration of the Corwin House, Aziz Osko carried this thinking forward by looking for the contemporary evolution of these architectural solutions. For the expansive glass façade in the living room, he selected Sky-Frame Classic minimalist sliding doors.
The system preserves the simplicity and transparency Neutra sought while providing the performance made possible by today’s technology. Nearly invisible frames and insulated glazing allow the connection between indoors and outdoors to be taken even further, while adapting the home to contemporary standards of comfort.
When innovation respects architecture
The restoration illustrates how a contemporary intervention can respect the intent of a historic architectural work without being limited by the technical constraints of its original era.
For Sky-Frame, the project also demonstrates how minimalist window and sliding door systems can contribute to the renovation of exceptional buildings, where respecting the existing architecture is just as important as performance.
Sky-Frame tells the story of the Corwin House, its restoration and its current residents in a film dedicated to the project.
